Oikawa Tooru x Reader

“(f/n)-chaaaan!”

You turned from your current task to see Oikawa peek out from the doorway with his bright Colgate smile. He pranced into the back of the classroom where you stood, making himself comfortable by taking a seat on a desk near you with his arms propped up on the back of chair.

“How are you doing today~” He hummed coolly.

You, not paying him anymore mind, turned back around to continue what you were doing. You were an after-school tutor for (subject), but since there were no tutoring sessions on Fridays, you usually opted to help the teacher organize graded papers and do other errands.

“Shouldn’t you be at practice right now, Tooru?” You replied impassively, shuffling through the paperwork. Knowing Oikawa for as long as you have (along with Iwaizumi), you learned not to humor him and his careless flirtatiousness.

“Aww, I can’t spare a few minutes to check up on Little (f/n)?” Hearing that nickname sprung an angry vein on your forehead, and you immediately shoved him in that moneymaker of a face he has. You were 147.35 cm tall, almost a head shorter than he is. In fact, you were probably the shortest third-year of your class, and you were well-reminded of that.

“I told you not to call me that, Trashykawa!”

“Waaah, (f/n)-chan.. Don't call me that too!” Oikawa whined. “I get enough of that from Iwa-chan!” You hmph’d in response, finally drawing your hand back from his face. Your eyes then dropped down to a little trinket hanging on the cell phone in his hand. It was a cute volleyball keychain you gave him in the beginning of middle school, with his initials engrained on the back. You turned back towards the counter, stacking the pile of papers.

“Why do you still have that ridiculous keychain…?” You muttered casually, albeit genuinely curious.

“This ridiculous keychain is a gift from you, (f/n)-chan! Of course I’d still have it! It’s my most cherished possession.” He said smoothly.

You would be lying if you said that didn’t make your heart flutter. It was a good thing your back was facing him, so he wouldn’t see the rosy glow arise from your cheeks.

Okay, as much as you give Oikawa crap for being, well, Oikawa, you’ve liked him for the longest time... maybe even loved him. Even as kids, he was able to say such mellifluous things so easily, which is probably one of the key factors in why he’s so popular with the ladies. That, and he’s really good-looking. Knowing all of that, you don’t allow yourself to get too caught up around him. Especially since…

“Wouldn’t your girlfriend be bothered by it?” You inquired, keeping yourself occupied with the papers in front of you.

“Haha, about that…” Oikawa started, scratching the back of his head. “She broke up with me the other day.”

“What? Why didn’t you tell me?? Was it because of volleyball?”

“Yup.” He replied simply.

He always put volleyball first, no matter what, which is why his relationships hasn’t lasted long thus far. “…You’re an idiot, Tooru.” You remarked.

“..Yeah.”

His hushed reply made you turn to face him. A soft, almost sad smile graced his lips as he looked down at the floor, his chin resting comfortably on his arms. Times like these made you wish you knew what he was thinking.

A minute of silence passed, before a very heated Iwaizumi barged in, practically kicking the door down.

“OIKAWA! GET YOUR LATE ASS TO PRACTICE RIGHT NOW.” Iwaizumi yelled before giving a quick “yo” in your direction. He tugged the back collar of Oikawa’s jacket, dragging him out his seat and onto his heels.

“Ouch, Iwa-chan! I was gonna head there soon!” Oikawa cried defensively. “I’ll see you later, (f/n)-chan! I’ll walk you home~”

And with that, they were gone.

You sighed, finally earning some peace and quiet.

---

“Oy, when are you gonna tell her you like her?” Iwaizumi questioned, noticing Oikawa being abnormally quiet.

“Me? Like (f/n)-chan? Iwa-chan, that’s ridiculous! I—We all go way back, it would be too weird!” Oikawa responded in jest, almost as if convincing himself. “Besides she doesn’t like me.”

Iwaizumi looked at Oikawa for a moment before staring forward.

“Tch, you really are an idiot.”

Flashback (7 years ago)—

You were shivering, as the gusts of icy wind started prickling your petite body like needles. You took shelter in the large tube of a playground near you, rubbing your small hands together in a desperate attempt to create warmth. You sat there for what seemed like an hour or so. Despite freezing your butt off, you, being as stubborn as you are, refused to go back with your tail between your legs.

There was no way you would go back to him after pulling this stunt. He’d probably tease you even more than before... You tried to keep it together at this point, but after a recollection of today, you started breaking down.

It was a Thursday when your parents decided you all move to the Miyagi Prefecture, and you didn’t take it all too well. You missed your old friends, your old school, everything. Not long after moving in, your parents befriended your neighbors next door, who just so happened to be the Oikawa’s.

That Friday, your parents left you with the neighbor’s son, Tooru, while they left for work. You didn’t like him. Not one bit. He was mean, kept teasing you about your smaller stature. Not being able to put up with it any longer, you stormed out the house, leaving him to his own accord. Even when he was calling out for you, you didn’t care. You ran as fast as you could away from him.

Now here you were, at the mercy of the wintery, frosted landscape, all alone, lost, and crying your eyes out without so much as a sweater. “That idiot boy is probably all warm at home without a care in the world.” You thought, sniffing before your nostrils become a home for icicles. Shortly after, you heard someone calling out your name.

“(f/n)! (f/n)!” You peeked out of the playground’s tube to see Oikawa, out of breath and wearing a grey parka. When he found you gazing at him with puffy eyes, he gave a relieved smile.

“Thank goodness, you’re safe...” He opened his jacket, spreading it apart to welcome you in.

“Come here...”

You couldn’t help but cry some more, and without thinking, you ran into his arms, his jacket now enveloping the both of you with precious warmth.

“Gomen ne.”

End flashback--

You gripped the stack of papers in your hands tightly.

“Why...? Why am I remembering this now?” You wondered, forlorn.

You then noticed patches of white hitting your field of vision. You gazed out of the window, finding tired flakes pouring down and shrouding the earth outside with snow. Shit…

---

After finishing your errands, you hopped down the steps outside the school, feeling the freezing cold, first-hand. Great, you forgot a jacket. Again. You rubbed your arms to create some sort of heat via friction. “Damn it, it’s really cold….” You thought as you puffed hot air into your hands. You wanted to run home as quick as possible to get away from this unwanted coldness.

“(f/n)-chaaan!” You heard Oikawa call out. You turned swiftly to see him in his volleyball attire, his gym bag at hand.

“You forgot a jacket again?” Oikawa asked incredulously.

“S-so what?” You countered lamely, embarrassed at your shivering form. God, this feels like déjà vu.

Oikawa sighed before giving you a fond smile.

“Jeez, you really haven’t changed, have you?” He asked quietly, gaze softening. He dropped his bag, and then proceeded to open his jacket up for you to walk into.

“Come here.”

Your cheeks heated up at his tender command, before hesitantly walking into his arms like long ago at the playground. He embraced you like that for awhile, his chin resting on the top of your head. You could hear his heart beat steadily, the sound putting you at ease and allowing you to momentarily forget the frigid climate. You sighed contently, before quickly feeling dispirited.

“Don’t get too happy. It’s just the same ol’ Tooru... being nice to girls as usual. I’m no exception…”

“Ne..” He said, disrupting your train of thought. “…Be my girlfriend.”

Your eyes widened, and you looked up at him abruptly to see if this was a joke. It must be a joke.

No.. He was dead serious. Oikawa. Serious. You hid your reddened face in his chest, avoiding further eye contact.

“W-what are you saying, idiot? You just had a girlfriend...” You responded, wavering a little. This was so sudden... What was this guy thinking?

“It doesn’t matter… I like you. I always have.” Oikawa said earnestly. “Those girls aren’t you. They’re not as cute as you. They don’t keep me in check like you. They don’t hit me and tell me I’m wrong like you. They don’t understand me like you do, (f/n)-chan.”

Your heart was beating rapidly, as he confessed to you right there in the blistering cold. You shouldn’t feel so happy, yet…

This idiot boy you’ve had feelings for since the very beginning... felt the same way about you. At that point, you no longer had the will to fight with your emotions.

“I… like you too, Tooru.” You confessed. You gripped his shirt, as he wrapped his arms and jacket tighter around you. You felt him sigh in relief and smile into your hair.

Suddenly, he lifted your small body up and spun you around, grinning from ear to ear.

“(f/n)-chan likes meeee~!” He proclaimed gleefully.

“P-put me down, stupid!” You demanded, all flustered. He immediately placed you on the second step of the stairs, now bringing you at eye level with him. He nuzzled your nose playfully before placing a gentle kiss on your lips, which you readily returned.

“Now let’s go home and cuddle~”

Okay, I'm actually pretty proud of this one. 1671 words.

Typing on Word made it seem longer.. But yeah, nippy weather ( & shoujo manga) was definitely the inspiration here as you can tell. Hope you enjoy! Heart
